Anthony Poon

Anthony PoonAnthony has begun his career as a communication specialist in a global bank looking after all the bank’s branch terminals and ATMs, ensuring their connection stability, automating network changes and designing the disaster recovery procedure. After a few years Anthony joined another global bank and ventured into the mainframe world and supported various mainframe software including DB2, CICS and communication software (VTAM/NCP and TCP/IP). Because of Anthony’s in depth knowledge of mainframe software, he had also published several articles at the world wide mainframe journal “CICS UPDATE” to share his effort with other mainframe users.

With the advent of open platform, Anthony started to lead the server team and had firmly grasped the practice of enterprise server management. This included server monitoring, capacity planning, automation strategy and disaster planning for thousands of servers.

As the bank business continued to grow and so was the size of the bank’s IT infrastructure, Anthony was assigned with the imminent data centre migration project to ensure seamless migration of several thousands of servers from its original data centre in Central to the standalone data centre building on the Kowloon side, whilst keeping minimal impact to the bank’s day-to-day business. The migration was highly successful and after that Anthony picked up another challenge of forming the Project Management Office, as then with the brand new data centre established new projects started to pour in from bank’s other business sectors all around the world. The newly formed PMO greatly helped to plan and schedule the delivery of these projects.

During Anthony’s 23+ years with the bank, he has developed strong management and inter-personal skill, and has good understanding of how to work with people from different countries with different cultures.
